A Treasure Trove of Chandeliers

A chandelier is an attractive looking, decorative lamp available in a variety of designs and can be fixed on ceilings or walls. It has many small lamps inside which when lit make the room glow. Almost all the online lighting companies sell a range of chandeliers which often are not available locally.

Handmade chandeliers are famous for their designs throughout the world and antique, decorative pieces can cost the buyer thousands of dollars. However, mass-produced versions will cost a lot less and can still be very desirable.

There are hundreds of styles and design to choose from and can be organized according to the period of history the come from or represent or the materials they are made from. For example:

Maria Theresa chandeliers are based on the designs which were created as per the wishes of the 18th century Austrian empress. She looked at chandeliers at the French court of Louis XV and liked them so much that she ordered identical designs to be made by her own craftsmen.

Murano chandeliers are made of hand blown glass from Venice which makes them very unique whilst wrought iron chandeliers are made by heating iron to a very high temperature in order to get a darker finish.

Tiffany chandeliers are created and designed by Meyda Tiffany by combining various arts and glass staining techniques.

Traditional chandeliers are replicas or remodels of older antique designs that have been favored over the centuries. Older models worked on gas or used candles but most now are powered by electricity.

The neo-classical chandeliers are made with art work from the period of 1900 to 1940.

Contemporary chandeliers are mostly used in homes, hotels and restaurants. They are created with modern imaginative designs and use varied raw materials.

Small crystal chandeliers are just miniature versions of their larger counterparts that look very pretty in a smaller room. Large crystal chandeliers look better in big and high-ceilinged rooms that have lots of space.

Alabaster chandeliers have alabaster stones embedded in them which emit a particularly soft glow.

Rustic chandeliers are those with rough finishes and country styling and are great for cabins and cottages. They are most often brown in color and can be painted with country scenes. A popular subcategory is the antler chandeliers which are made from both real and artificial bone.

Many designers create replicas of antique chandeliers whilst others create contemporary models. They can be made from crystals, beads, shells, blown glass, brass, iron and nickel making for a wide variety to suit every taste.
